PYOGENIC SPONDYLODISCITIS: RISK FACTORS FOR THERAPEUTIC FAILURE AND RECURRENCE

چکیده
ABSTRACT Objective: Evaluate the prognostic factors associated with therapeutic failure and recurrence in pyogenic spondylodiscitis (PS). Methods: A historical cohort study was conducted a reference Brazilian hospital for locomotor system neurodevelopmental diseases. All patients PS treated between January 1999 December 2018 followed at least one year were included. defined based on clinical, laboratory, radiological criteria. Microbiological data clinical outcomes end of follow-up also collected analyzed. Results: Fifty (mean age 50.94 ± 15.84 years, men 76.00%) After twelve months follow-up, observed 24.00% (n = 12) 18.00% 09) patients. Among those who cured, residual symptoms found 50.00% (19/38). No deaths observed. multivariate analysis, prescription antibiotic therapy before culture results (p 0.0153), spinal cord compression 0.0053), sensory deficits 0.0341). Furthermore, previous nonspinal surgeries 0.0350) 0.0447). Conclusion: causes significant morbidity. The prognosis depends mainly presentation admission, especially when compression, which reinforces importance early diagnosis. Level Evidence II; Prognostic Studies.

Epidemiological and clinical features of pyogenic spondylodiscitis.
Pyogenic spondylodiscitis (PS) is an uncommon but important infection, that represents 3-5% of all cases of osteomyelitis. The annual incidence in Europe has been estimated to be from 0.4 to 2.4/100,000. A has been reported, with peaks at age less than 20 years and in the group aged 50-70 years. The incidence of PS seems to be increasing in the last years as a result of the higher life expectan...

BACKGROUND Pyogenic vertebral osteomyelitis (PVO) represents approximately 2-7% of all cases of osteomyelitis. The approach to the treatment of PVO may be conservative, which includes antibiotic therapy and orthopaedic treatment, or surgical. AIM To overview conservative and surigical approaches to PVO. METHODS A literature review was performed using the Pubmed database to identify studies ...
متن کاملMagnetic Resonance Imaging in Differentatial Diagnosis of Pyogenic Spondylodiscitis and Tuberculous Spondylodiscitis
BACKGROUND Infectious spondylodiscitis is characterized by the involvement of two adjacent vertebrae and the intervening disc. Incidence rate of the disease is estimated at 0.4-2 cases per 100000 per year. Staphylococcus aureus is the most common infectious agent causing pyogenic spondylodiscitis. Non-pyogenic infections of the spine are most frequently caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and...

OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to identify the risk factors for developing extra-hepatic metastases from pyogenic liver abscesses. METHODS We conducted a retrospective study and reviewed 225 patients (age, 19-93 years) with a discharge diagnosis of pyogenic liver abscess from a large medical centre in Taiwan, between January 1995 and June 2000. Clinical data were collected from medical ...
متن کاملPathogen Identification in Suspected Cases of Pyogenic Spondylodiscitis
Pyogenic spinal infection continues to represent a worldwide problem. In approximately one-third of patients with pyogenic spondylodiscitis, the infectious agent is never identified. Of the cases that lead to organismal identification, bacteria are more commonly isolated from the spine rather than fungi and parasites. This study applied universal prokaryotic 16S rRNA PCR as a rapid diagnostic t...
